No Ordinary Joe

Some people have asked about Sierra Leone and sponsor-a-child program, so let me say that with thanks to God we raised just over $41,000 in four weeks to sponsor 187 students. A few sponsorships trickle in each week. The stories surrounding the sponsorships are amazing and too many to tell. Grandparents who sent in 9 sponsorships-1 for each of their grandchildren. Another sponsorship by some parents in the name of a teacher who helped out their child. Each sponsorhip has a story and I only can thank God that He moved some hearts to say "yes" to the invitation to partner in Sierra Leone. Just this week a Sierra Leone national living in Wisconsin did a random search on Youtube and found the video our students made from their trip in the spring. Check it out.

The stories are endless and I think it is one of the benefits of being connected to a place long term. Oense leave this Saturday for three weeks in Kabala to work on some of the nitty gritty details of running a school.

Finally, one really cool colleague of mine, Joe Melissen, and his wife Adrienne are heading to Sierra Leone for an entire year. Unbelievable. I can only imagine the excitement, nerves, anxiety and all the other emotions they must be feeling at this point. I don't think it will be easy, but I do think it will be good. They will be a blessing and be blessed as the contribute in that community. Joe is teaching grade 4 and Adrienne is an R.N. who will be helping Peacemaker in the clinic. We will be praying for them like crazy. You can follow their blog here and I will link it on the side. Traveling mercies to Joe and Adrienne.
