Hot...I mean H-O-T Hot

We arrived back where Bev and I got our start when we first married: Churchill, Montana, which is just a little west of Bozeman. I am always amazed at the memories and the emotions that come about when we arrive back here. Needless to say, they are almost all positive. We are thankful for the time we had here. It gave me a solid base for becoming a Christian school teacher, and it gave us time and space to figure out the marriage thing.

The kids have absolutely loved it here. We usually stay with our good friends Darin and Gloria. Darin is a Black Angus cattle rancher and the kids love the wide open spaces. Today they got rides on four wheelers, swam in the creek that winds through the property, and had time to recover after 12 hours in the car yesterday.

Here is what the itinerary from yesterday looked like:

6:45 a.m. Leave home
6:58: Cross the border
7:15-first "Are we there yet?"
7:16: See first of over 50 police cars between the border and Seattle. Obviously some sort of stop speeding campaign is happening. This does not bode well for me.
7:57: I laugh as some huge hummer is getting a speeding ticket
7:59: My huge suburban is picked off and I receive a speeding ticket.
10:10: First rest stop-Emma, scared of the auto flush that almost sucked her down the drain during last summer's trip, is hesistant to use the facilities.
10:25: "Is it supper yet"
10:35: "Is this the first day of the trip or the second day?"
10:55: Moses Lake, WA: "Crop names in Fence next 13 miles" I name the first six without a miss; mess up when I discover you can grow "peppermint" in a field. (No word on if it was King or Whilemina)
1:52: Emma makes up a story about a fish named Jesus who gets flushed down the toilet when he dies. "I flushed Jesus down the toilet." Apparently he can walk on water but is now match for the powerful suck of our new low-flow toilets. Unclear what this might mean for his resurrection.
1:15 Cross into Idaho, stop for Subway.
3:30: Temperature is now 103F, but I need coffee in Kellog, ID. The McDonalds guy feels sorry for me and tells me "it's on the house." Nice. And good coffee. Probably because it was free.
5::30: The mercury tops out at 108F in Missoula, MT.
7:58: We arrive. Over 1200 kms to go. Thank you, Lord, for the hedge of protection on this fine day.

Tomorrow we leave early as we journey all the way to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
