About six weeks ago I wrote about sponsoring children to attend the Christian school in Kabala, Sierra Leone. We needed to raise over $28,000. To be honest, I was skeptical. After talking to students about it at school, I was even more skeptical as we raised a meager (but important) $200 after one day.
But then something weird happend. People started getting involved. The students started stepping up. The grade 9's alone raise over $5,000. That was sweet. My sister celebrate her anniversary last week, and instead of asking for gifts she asked people to sponsor a childe (each child cost $200).
Today I put the final checks in the bank. We closed this out at $33,310! Amen and Thank you. The school is almost done. It has been a remarkable journey. One person in Sierra Leone commented that the school should be a university, not an elementary school. I will let you decide. Here are some pictures from this weekend.
And finally, there is nothing I can write here that would express our deep, deep gratitude to Asher DeGroot for blessing it forward for 6 months in SL. He designed the school, was project coordinator, kept people on task, and was a blessing to all around. Asher, thank you. I don't know anything else that I could say.
And some pictures...
