Oense wrote this as an encouragement as we got back to the business of planting trees this week. It comes in the middle of a lot of melting snow and flooding...
"The extended holiday provided some extra time to muse on the year that lies ahead. 2009. The year ended with a great deal of uncertainty because we fall under the media spells of doom and gloom forecasting. What does it mean to follow Jesus in such times? I’ve been feeding my neighbors animals over the last few days and this has meant making a track through the fields to their place. The first day my boots were full of snow because there were no footprints. The second day was better and this morning if I was careful to place my boots in the prints from the previous days, my socks would be dry when I got home. We follow in the footsteps of Jesus and this might mean listening less to the forecasting and more to the very different way in which he lived. The future is secure and exciting in his footsteps."
