It is Well With Our Souls

When Peace Like a River...

First of all, thank you for your prayers. I said to a few people today that throughout my life there are many times when I know people are praying for me; and then there are times like the last few days where you can “feel” the prayers of the people keeping you up.

Today the big step was that Madelyn is now breathing on her own. Without overwhelming you with many pictures, here is one picture of her without the breathing tube. The tube going into her nose is for food. And hey, if you are going to come on Christmas Day that early, I keep telling her the price you pay is food up the nose. The people who stopped by and saw her today were amazed at how small she is; without making her sound large, because she is small, I am amazed at how big she is! She is almost 3 pounds! And her skin colour is beautiful. The nurses today can’t believe her health so far (so far, because there are still lots of variables), saying that she is just like a full term baby, just smaller! Of course this is all good news, and of course it won’t be easy, she is in an incubator for the next four or five weeks for a reason.

The other reality is that throughout the pregnancy we prayed for a healthy child. I can assure you now that our definition of healthy has changed radically. A baby that is supposed to be in the womb for seven more weeks that has fingernails, hair, flat ears (Amen!), and she pooped and peed today and needed her diaper changed. Oh, and she has blue eyes because she opened those today too.

We continue to be overwhelmed with the staff at RCH. I introduced our doctor and nurses to my parents today, wanting to show off this amazing staff who continues to encourage and build us up. We have laughed a lot with the staff and will miss them as we move up to the maternity wing on the third floor.

That is all for now; time to hang out with my other three girls and play some games.

Pressing On,

Beim
