Matt does MAT

I did some editing on my thesis this week and this morning I went down to Western Washington University to take some MAT graduate exam. I didn't need specific score for my graduate work, and with all my other work this past week I spent exactly 0 seconds preparing for it. I also spent about that much time going over it once I was done. It was quite an american biased test with lots of analogies that were referencing figures in American history. We celebrated by heading to Vancouver and got a behind the scenes tour at the aquarium from friend Jenny, and then head to North Vancouver to do a bit of touring around the Lynn Canyon Suspension bridge. A long day, but a wonderful one.

One quote I ran across as I was feeling good about all my accomplishments.

From Len's blog.

Thomas Merton told a fellow monk, “If I make anything out of the fact that I am Thomas Merton, I am dead. And if you make anything out of the fact that you are in charge of the pig barn, you are dead.” Merton’s solution? “Quit keeping score altogether and surrender yourself with all your sinfulness to God who sees neither the score nor the scorekeeper but only his child redeemed by Christ.”
